Public Readings - Eddie Murphy Beverly Hills Cop Becomes a TV Show in Teaming with Director, Shawn Ryan. Eddie Murphy has been in showbiz for quite some time now; his charismatic attitude and witty nature has gained him a very strong fan base. What would you say has been Eddie Murphy’s best film? Coming to America, Norbit, The Nutty Professor, Dr. Dolittle, or maybe Beverly Hills Cop? Everyone most likely has their own favorite as he has starred in over 40 different movies.
One thing may be certain and that is, Eddie Murphy has had a pretty lengthy movie and entertainment career up to this point, and at age 51, he does not look to call it quits yet. It appears the movie days may be past him although he did star in a fairly popular movie called Tower Heist this year, but now his T.V. show days may be onthe horizon.
The vastly popular movie sequel Beverly Hills Cop turned Axel Foley into a worldwide character on the big screen. Now the comical and edgy detective Foley will look to be a star in a T.V. show in the making called Beverly Hills Cop. The show will try to be a mirror image of what the movie was but with a little different approach to it as Eddie Murphy will only be making a few on scene appearances as he wants it to be more about Axel Foley’s son instead.
“What I’m trying to do now is produce a TV show starring Axel Foley’s son, and Axel will be the chief of police now in Detroit, I would do the pilot, and show up here and there,” Murphy said in a statement.
Murphy mentioned that the reason he wanted to do the T.V. version of Beverly Hills Cop and not another sequel to the movie was because, he felt none of the movie scripts were the right fit for him.
“To me the script was trying to force the premise, and I think if you have to force something, you shouldn’t be doing it, the script was kind of a rehash of the old thing, I wanted to try something new and fresh,” Murphy said.
Murphy will be teaming up with Shawn Ryan the director of the popular show “The shield” to produce the show according to the Huffington Post. As of right now the two men are offering this hour long show concept to leading U.S. network executives. Now the question is will the catchy theme song of Beverly Hills Cop still attract viewers, and who would be the perfect actor to play Axel Foley’s son?
