Murphy’s death rumor was initiated by The Global Associated News. According to IBTimes.com, the "news" report posted by The Global Associated News read, "The actor & novice snowboarder was vacationing at the Zermatt ski resort in Zermatt, Switzerland with family and friends. Witnesses indicate that Eddie Murphy lost control of his snowboard and struck a tree at a high rate of speed."

In addition to the snowboarding accident, the website also elaborated on the aftermath of Eddy Murphy’s hoax accident. According to them, Murphy was "air lifted by ski patrol teams to a local hospital, however, it is believed that the actor died instantly from the impact of the crash. The actor was wearing a helmet at the time of the accident and drugs and alcohol do not appear to have played any part in his death."

Soon after the news was posted, Murphy’s fans stirred a huge debate about his death on several media websites without even confirming if it was true or not. The matter soon became one of the top searched news on Google. Social media, especially Twitter, was flooding with messages by fans about his unfortunate accident and sad demise.

Once the matter became popular and widely-discussed, the website put up a disclaimer, saying the hoax death news was created solely for entertainment purposes. The disclaimer on the website read, "This story is 100% fake! This is an entertainment website, and this is a totally fake article based on zero truth and is a complete work of fiction for entertainment purposes."

Some fans were relieved to find out that the “The Nutty Professor” actor was still alive and didn’t suffer any critical injuries in a snowboarding accident, while others were furious over the team behind The Global Associated News for posting such obnoxious news about a living legend of the entertainment industry.

This isn’t the first time Eddy Murphy has been made a subject of death hoax. He was victimized just last month and also back in 2011.
